HUMAN NETWORK

We are taught all our lives to be our brother's keeper, it’s funny how we tend to move in the exact opposite direction - of being "not my brother's keeper". The failure of your neighbor will rub off on you in several ways no matter how you avoid it, the same way his success will rub on you in inexplicable ways.

As I have written in a previous note, destiny is a two-way work: one from us and the other from divinity. Divinity (God) will bring people our way (or make us meet people) so there can be a balance of destiny, a blunt iron sharpens a sharp iron the same way the sharp iron sharpens the blunt one until there is balance in there sharpness – this, to me is the main essence of the “human network”.

The main reason why I feel God place us in a certain places is for us to have a sense of contribution to people’s life and be contributed into too; life is short, we all agree, but how logical is it that within this agreed short life-span we have as human we still spend much of it not making positive impact in people’s life and at times even deliberately undermining people’s effort to climb high, the true measure of a man is not in what he gets but what he is able to give – tangible and intangible gifts: our love, our time, our money, our experiences, our talent, etc. Let’s get out of our way to touch a life, in touching lives, we touch our own life! - Emi Iyalla
